It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we share with you that Lisa Szukiewicz, one of our founding teachers and friends, has passed away on Tuesday, February 16. Lisa worked passionately as a teacher for more than 30 years, with a genuine attitude and great sense of humor.

After a long on-and-off battle with cancer, Lisa recently fell ill. Early this past week, things took a turn for the worse, and we were informed of her passing on Tuesday. Lisa was the beloved wife of the late Raymond Szukiewicz, and is survived by her brother Albert Nassar, as well as nieces and nephews.

Jordan, Josh, and Kim all worked closely with Lisa for about two years at a local music store in Maryland prior to her time teaching with The Lesson Foundry. Lisa always made sure to give a warm greeting and stopped to chat if there was time during the day to do so. She possessed an admirable honesty, and a serious passion for teaching and connecting with her students.

When circumstances came that would greatly affect her ability to continue to teach at the former music store, Lisa was quick to show her support, and became one of the biggest encouraging and motivating voices that helped push the three of us at The Lesson Foundry to pursue this dream of ours. It is no exaggeration to say we would not have come as far as we have without Lisa’s influence.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Institute for Cancer Care at Mercy.

Aw man, that’s so sad to hear! Lisa was such a role model and a prime example that female musicians are the best. She had so much energy and always had her students leaving happy and well prepared. Sending kindness to her family.
